Indian jeweller and retailer Gitanjali Group has launched a gold and diamond vending machine - the world's first ever.

The gold and diamond machine, a part of the Gitanjali's umbrella branding "Go for Gold", was inaugurated at Phoenix High St, Mumbai's largest shopping mall located at Lower Parel.

The vending machine features 36 products of various designs, sizes and prices which range from 1000 rupees - 30,000 rupees ($20 - $600). Purchasers can choose products that are displayed on touch screen and can pay via debit card, credit card or cash.

"The machine is a first of its kind anywhere in the world and will further revolutionise the processes by which precious metals and jewellery is bought," said Gitanjali Export Corporation CEO Sanjeev Agarwal.

The gold and diamond vending machine dispenses gold and silver coins, diamond studded jewellery and pendants with religious motifs. The machine is ideal for last minute purchasing and provides purchasers with instant gratification.

In the coming months, Gitanjali plans to set up more gold and diamond dispensers in airports, shopping malls and temples.

Great to see Vending machines being put to use for "more out of the box ideas". Vending machine usage is becoming far more popular nowadays and the technology is ever increasing. From swiping your credit/debit card to even swiping your mobile phone to pay for the product to be vended.
The transition for vending machine usage is always changing...having a salesperson who never sleeps and is always there to serve is a very cost effective way to utilise additionakl sales. Vending is never ending.
